Police Arrest 781 Electoral Violators Nationwide

More than 700 offenders were arrested by the Nigeria Police (NPF) for violating electoral laws during the 2023 general election.
Inspector General of Police, Usman Alkali Baba, announced this on Monday during a meeting with the police commissioners of 36 federal states and the FCT, as well as other senior officers.

According to the IGP, the exact number of those arrested is currently 781.

Providing more details on the arrest, IGP Alkali Baba said that 185 cases of electoral violations were recorded during the presidential election with 203 arrests made.

For Governor and Congressional elections, the sheriff said 304 election violations were recorded and 578 violators were arrested.  The IGP said the meeting with the commissioners and other leaders in the force had turned serious given the threats to national security by some political actors it said were trying to undermine peace. peace of the country after the election.

He condemned the actions of political actors engaged in ethnic profiling to advance their interests and instead called on the people of Nigeria to strive for unity.
