NATHANIEL BASSEY Biography
Nathaniel bassey is a Nigerian songwriter, trumpeter and gospel artiste. He hails from Ikot Ofon Ikono, Uyo LGA, Akwa Ibom state, but was born in Lagos, Nigeria on the 27th of August, 1978. He studied Urban and Regional Planning in the University of Lagos (UNILAG), and also studied Politics and Internal Relations in the University of London. He grew up as a member of The Apostolic Church (Bashua Assembly).
Right from his young age, Nat has always had passion for music, he was more focused on the Jazz genre. He has always looked up to many jazz musicians like Hugh Masekela, Louis Armstrong, Clifford Brown etc. He was inspired by Dr. Panam Percy Paul to take up music when he watched him perform at a concert years ago.
As time went on, due to Nat’s love and interest for Jazz, he joined a Jazz band known as Spectrum 4 in Lagos. Later on, he was approached by Elder Steve Rhodes, a popular Nigerian Jazz Musician to lead the first Jazz Orchestra in Nigeria (The Steve Rhodes Orchestra). He was the trumpeter in the band.
Nat has performed in many gospel concerts all over the world. He has also released songs like Imela, Olowogbogboro, Onishe Iyanu, Miracle Worker, Abba Father, Wonderful Wonder, etc. He is the convener of the Hallelujah Challenge, an online 30 days midnight prayer and praise session. He has won several awards, one of which is Gospel Artiste of the year in 2017 at the AFRIMMA awards in USA. Nathaniel Bassey is married to Sarah, and their union is blessed with two kids.
