INEC, The Independent National Election Commission, has released the number of permanent voter cards collected by the state.
According to INEC, so far, 87,209,007 permanent voter cards (PVCs) have been collected nationwide. Mahmood Yakubu, President of INEC, announced the development on Thursday during a press conference at the national collection center in Abuja.
Initially, the committee set December 12 to January 22 for arrears in all LGAs. The committee then extended the deadline to January 29 and again to February 5. Speaking at the briefing, Yakubu said while the committee was pleased the arrears were higher than compared with previous years, there are still many unrecovered PVCs. According to data distributed to journalists, of the 93,469,008 registered voters in Nigeria, 93.3% collected their PVCs. However, 6,259,229 cards – accounting for 6.7% of PVC – have not yet been recovered.
The data also shows that Lagos leads in the number of PVCs collected with 6,214,970, followed by Kano with 5,594,193 and Kaduna with 4,164,473. Meanwhile, the states with the most uncollected PVCs include Lagos – 845,225, Oyo – 515,254, and Ogun – 410,281.
