The Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria, Godwin Emefiele, on Monday called on the Minister of Labor and Employment, Chris Ngige, to prevail over the leadership of the Nigerian Labor Congress (NLC) in the protest rally. and on Wednesday.

But at a closed-door meeting held at the Ministry of Labor and Employment headquarters in Abuja, Emefiele said the protest would hinder the apex bank’s progress if not stopped.
NLC Chairman Joe Ajaero led other Labor leaders while Emefiele led officials from the apex bank to the meeting chaired by the Minister.
A ministry official, who attended the meeting, told The Daily Trust anonymously that Emefiele had promised to ensure that all commercial banks received sufficient funds from the CBN vault.
“You would notice that the CBN had since last Friday directed commercial banks to open during weekends so as to ease the issue of cash crunch. The governor (Emefiele) was here to talk to the Minister in order to prevail on the labour leaders.
“He (Emefiele) said the protest will disrupt a lot of things in the bank, hence his reasons to heed the minister’s call who is a Chief conciliator”, the official told Daily Trust.
None of the three spoke to reporters after the closed-door meeting.
A statement has not yet been released by the apex bank or the department regarding the meeting at the time this report was filed last night.
But the NLC president, in an official invitation to reporters, said he would notify the press on Tuesday of the outcome of the meeting.
