BEN ORIE KALU, SUSPECTED GAY ESCAPES POLICE CUSTODY, DECLARED WANTED
A 28-year old gay suspect, Ben Orie Kalu has reportedly escaped police custody in Imo State.
Confirming the report, the Imo State Police Public Relations Officer, SP Godson Orlando Ikeokwu said Ben Orie Kalu escaped through the ceiling in the night of February 27, 2019, stating that the police on duty have been mandated to produce him or face disciplinary action.
According to him, “Ben Orie Kalu took a wrong step to have escaped in other not to be convicted in court for gay practice.
“The command is leaving no stone unturned in their search, even as the operation of the special crimes detectives of the command are working round the clock to arrest the fleeing Ben Orie Kalu”.
SP Ikeokwu said that the suspect has committed another offence escaping from their custody. He recalled that his gay partner, David was crushed to death by a moving vehicle on the highway the night they were arrested when he attempted to flee the police van.

He further stated, “Ben Orie Kalu is now a wanted person by the Nigeria Police Force and handsome reward awaits anyone with information leading to his arrest.
“Gay practice is frowned at by the Federal Republic of Nigeria and when convicted attracts a jail term of 14 years. Again, it is also considered an abominable act, and persons caught always face mob justice which most often results in death of suspect”, SP Ikeokwu added.
