The Oyo State Parliament on Thursday approved the request of the state governor, Engineer Seyi Makinde for a new loan of N50 billion.
Lawmakers approved the request during a plenary session chaired by Vice President Muhammad Abiodun Fadeyi (Ona Ara).
Parliament Speaker Adebo Ogundoyin, whose mother Justina Ogundoyin recently passed away, did not attend the plenary session.
However, DAILY POST reported that all legislators elected on the Radical Plenary Assembly (APC) platform were conspicuously absent from the plenary session.
All legislators elected on the APC platform 2019 lost in the elections held recently in their respective constituencies. Among those who did not attend Thursday’s plenary session were minority Leaders Asimiyu Niran Alarape (Oyo East/Oyo West), Isiaka Kazeem Tunde (Atiba), Olawumi Oladejo (Ogbomoso North) and Seyi Adisa (AFIJIO).
The reason for their absence was not disclosed at the time of filing this report on Friday.
Makinde, who has been elected to a second term, took office in May 2019 and sent no less than five loan applications back home, and these applications were approved.

The governor, in his letter to lawmakers, said the latest loan decision was to complete ongoing projects and implement new projects in the state.
The governor’s letter was read out by Vice President Abiodun Fadeyi, who presided over Thursday’s plenary session. The House Majority Leader, Sanjo Adedoyin Onaolapo, in his presentation, said the fund would be of great help in facilitating the current government to execute contracts for grassroots development projects. Lawmakers present at the plenary session then unanimously approved the governor’s request.
