The Cross River branch of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) failed to bid to retain two seats in the Senate and six seats in the House of Representatives in the recently concluded National Assembly (NASS) election.

The state opposition lost Cross River Central and Cross River South to the ruling All Progressive Congress (APC) party. Still, it defeated incumbent Governor Professor Ben Ayadeh for the Northern Senate seat.

His Jarigbe Agom-Jarigbe, a PDP northern senator candidate and incumbent, defeated his Ayade by 76,145 votes against his 56,595 votes for Ayade.

Similarly, APC’s Williams Jonah won the central seat with 57,354 votes and PDP’s Ewa Bassey with 53,463 votes.

In the Senate Central seat, Asuquo Ekpenyong won 57,870 votes, beating Labor Party’s Daniel Asuquo, who received 50,760 votes, and PDP candidate Ekpo Ekon, with 41,117 votes, trailing him in third place. finished.

Opposition secured only two of the eight seats for him in the House of Representatives.

PDP did not return his Calabar South/Akpabuyo federal constituency candidate and incumbent, but also her Ekpenyong Ayi-Essien, his Etta Mbora candidate and incumbent in Calabar/Odukpani municipality. He lost to the Labor Party candidate.

NAN reports that Ayi-Essien, who has been in the Green Chamber for 20 years, finished third with her 14,485 votes.

LP and APC contestants Edem Aqua and Joseph Bassey came in second and first with 16,448 and 23,885 votes respectively.

Similarly, PDP Mbola lost the seat of Calabar Municipality/Odukpani with 19,584 votes, winning 21,066 votes, placing him third behind APC’s Idim Inok and Labor Party’s Akiba Ekpenyon with 23,759 votes. he ended up.

PDP also lost the Boki/Ikom seat it held for 12 years to his APC Abang Bissong at the hands of Chris Agibe.

Attah Achinke, who was looking to replace Agibe, narrowly lost to his APC candidate by 23,158 votes to 22,745.

APC also won seats in the Akamkpa/Biase, Obubra/Etung, and Yakurr/Abi Houses of Representatives.

However, PDP candidates for Ogoja/Yala and Ovanlik/Obudu/Bekwala seats secured two seats, defeating APC candidates and incumbents.

Ogoja/Yala seat incumbent Jude Ngaji lost to PDP’s Godwin Offiono by 32,964 votes to 36,642 votes. Idagbo Legor lost to PDP’s Peter Akpanke by a margin of 26,819 votes for him in the Obanliku/Obudu/Bekwarra seat, where he had 36,576 votes.

The ruling Cross River Party won the Obbra/Etung federal constituency with Michael Ilom winning 13,990 of his votes and his PDP winning 12,620 votes he defeated Gabriel Okpech.
