The viral audio clip, which has sparked controversy on social media, alleges that Obi asked Bishop Oyedepo to mobilize Church support for him.
The leaked audio also claims that the former governor of Anambra declared the 2023 presidential election a ‘war of religion’ and demanded that Oyedepo reach out to Christians in the Southwest states such as Kwara, Kogi, and Niger.
Later, the Minister of Information and Culture, Lai Mohammed, declared that the actions of Obi and the Party were treasonous and could lead to an uprising.
But in a statement Wednesday via Twitter, Obi ultimately denied the conversation, saying the audio call was fake and proven, and claimed there was pressure on him to leave the country.
“These have come and continued to manifest in different ways, such as the malicious accusation of the Minister of Information, Mr Lai Mohammed, the circulation of a fake doctored audio call, and a pressure on me to leave the country.
“Let me reiterate that the audio call being circulated is fake, and at no time throughout the campaign and now did I ever say, think, or even imply that the 2023 election is, or was a religious war,” he said.
However, Sowore reacted to Development via Twitter on Wednesday, saying the stance taken by the LP presidential candidate in a phone call with Oyedepo after asking for the pastor’s extraordinary help was untrue.
He wrote:
