Information and Culture Minister Lai Mohammed said President Muhammadu Buhari’s administration is determined to leave a legacy of quality healthcare through “universal health insurance”.
According to him, this will expand the network of people who will join the health insurance plan.
Mohammed said this on Saturday during the commissioning of an 80-bed multi-purpose hospital in Oro, Irepodun Local Government Area (LGA) of State Kwara, funded by the Office of Special Assistant to the President for Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), Princess Adejoke Adefulure.
Information Nigeria reports that the commissioning is one of two key events in the ongoing Oro Community Oro Day 2023 ceremony, where a development fund of 500 million is being launched.
Before that, he operated a 40-bed multi-purpose hospital in Igbaja under the same local government.
The first hospital also funded by the SDG office was put into operation last year in Eiyenkorin, Asa LGA in the state, equipped with modern facilities. According to the minister, the authorized hospital is the third facility put into operation by the SDG office in Kwara State with the aim of reducing maternal, child, and infant mortality rates.
“We have just launched a 40-bed primary care center in Igbaja, Kwara State, also built and equipped by the SDG Office.
“The 80 beds in service are also equipped to enhance the health of mothers and children. It has a theater, incubator, ventilator, phototherapy machine, patient monitor, baby bed, examination bed, and 100 kva generator, equipped and lit by solar streetlights
“This development is in line with the PMB government’s commitment to providing medical facilities to meet the needs of the Nigerian people.
“I learned that the SDG Office has put into operation more than 35 hospitals out of 100 beds spread across the country. It has also put into operation 20 80-bed hospitals and many primary health centers across the country.
“I commend the SDG Office for the great strides it has made in providing social services across the country, especially in remote areas.
“The PMB government is determined to leave a legacy of providing quality health care through universal health coverage, helping to expand the network for those who will join the health insurance plan,” said Mohammed. speak.
Mohammed also said the Basic Healthcare Delivery Fund is being operated to provide health care to the poor and needy in Nigeria, stressing that “we will make sure there is availability.” Minimum basic medical service package. This will ensure that at least 100,000,000 Nigerians will have health insurance through public and private sources.
According to him, the Federal Government is working with the African Export-Import Bank (AFREXIM) to organize the Regional Center of Medical Excellence in Abuja and the hospital will be run by King’s College Hospital, London.
He added that the administration’s response to health emergencies remains unprecedented, “especially given how we were able to contain the COVID-19 pandemic in the country.
“Worthy of note is that under this administration, Nigeria has been certified Wild Polio Free.”
