The federal government suspended plans to phase out fuel subsidies in June of this year.
The Minister of Finance, Budget and National Planning, Ahmed Zaniab, gave the instructions on Thursday, shortly after a meeting of the National Economic Council, NEC, chaired by Vice President Yemi Osinbajo.
She said the NEC, which includes state governors, had considered the issue carefully and had come to the conclusion that it would not be wise to remove the subsidies as soon as the new administration tried to stabilize governance.
She also noted that the current committee discussed fuel subsidies should be expanded to allow more relevant Nigerians to contribute.
She specifically said there needs to be more communication with the Nigerian Labor Congress, and the NLC, and more engagement with the Petroleum Traders Association, among others.
