May 29: Abia Governor-Elect, Otti Declares Seven-Day Fasting, Prayer For Spiritual Cleansing

Abia State re-dedication and thanksgiving by Governor-elect Alex Otti announced a seven-day prayer and fasting ceremony before Otti was sworn in on May 29.
According to a statement released on Sunday by the committee’s chairman and secretary, Uzor Nwachukwu and Bertrand Okeomah, respectively, the committee revealed that the program was among the activities planned for the inauguration. Otti’s office as the 10th governor of Abia.

He also revealed that spiritual purification will begin with prayer and fasting on Sunday, May 21, and end on Friday, May 26.

The committee said the event, which aims to usher in a new wave of spirituality, will end with a “dedication retreat” at Ngwa High School, Aba on May 27.

He added that the spiritual retreat had the support of the leadership of the Abia Branch of the Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN). “Similarly, a thanksgiving ceremony after the inauguration will be held on Sunday, June 4 at the Umuahia Town Stadium at noon,” the statement added.

However, CAN has called on all of its member churches in Abia to observe prayers and fasts.

According to a statement by Mgbeahuru Okey, secretary of CAN, the directive was issued by the president of Abia CAN, Emmanuel Agomoh.

“Let us join hands with other devotees in this very important mission for a new Abia in our collective dream,” the CAN statement said.
