Officials in Abia State complied with the directive of the Nigerian Labor Congress (NLC) and embarked on an indefinite industrial action.
Nigeria News learned that the strike started on Tuesday morning with most of the offices locked down.
However, the strike enforcement group NLC led by President Paschal Nweke was seen loitering around, placing banners and flags on several government offices to signify the strike was taking place and to ensure compliance.
Meanwhile, the public radio station, Broadcasting Corporation of Abia, BCA has previously announced that it will be offering “bone services from Tuesday”.
Nweke, who spoke to reporters on Library Avenue, revealed that workers will stay at home until they receive notice of payment for their services.
“We are on strike for non-payment of salaries, pensions, leave allowances and minimum wage.
“We met with the State government and had some agreement but they have not done anything.
“They are still receiving allocations so they should pay us. The strike is total.
”We can’t stop this strike until we start getting our alerts,” the NLC Chairman said.
