What Emefiele Will Experience If Buhari Leaves Office – Shehu Sani

Former lawmaker and social critic Senator Shehu Sani has predicted what Nigeria’s Central Bank Governor Godwin Emefiele may face when President Major General Muhammadu Buhari (retired) resigns.
Sani described the CBN boss’ situation as akin to a “zebra in the hands of a tiger”, when Buhari stepped down on May 29.

As Punch reports, President-elect Bola Tinubu, including several governors of the Radical General Assembly, did not find the naira overhaul pleasant.

The naira overhaul has also put many Nigerians in dire straits after the scarcity of new naira bills.

However, the Supreme Court last week extended the validity of the old N200, N500, and N1,000 naira banknotes until December 31, saying that CBNs must continue to receive banknotes from Nigerians. The Supreme Court ruled that the president’s directive to redact the new notes without proper consultation was invalid.

Meanwhile,  former senator Sani believes Emefiele may not be protected from political actors when Buhari finally becomes former president later this year.

“When Baba (Buhari) is gone, Emefiele will be like a Zebra in the hands of the Tigers,” Sani said in a post via his verified Twitter account on Saturday night.
