A renowned agriculturist and an astute youth leader, Ambassador Christian Paul Egilewe has said that youths need result-oriented innovations in order to transform the food system.
This he made known during his speech at the celebration of the 2021 international youth’s day ceremony organized by the Ika South local government arm of National Youth Council of Nigeria (NYCN). In his words, he said “as youths, it is not enough to bring up innovative ideas, but the innovation ought to be result-oriented, that is, solving a particular problem”.
He further encouraged the youths present at the event to embrace agriculture as a career in order to ensure food security for everyone. The youth ambassador reminded the youths that agriculture had metamorphosed and grown beyond hoes and machetes, as there are a lot in the value chain to be utilized and that youths could be active in food production/cultivation, marketing or storage.
Amb. Egilewe also highlighted some precarious challenges faced in the agro industry while encouraging the youths to think outside the box for result-oriented innovations that could tackle such challenges.
Recall that on the 12th day of August of every year has been set aside to celebrate the youths worldwide, as it is the international youth’s day. This year’s edition is a special one as the theme concerns food production, human and planetary health. The United Nations had earlier released the theme to be “Transforming Food Systems: Youth Innovation for Human and Planetary Health”. The National Youth Council of Nigeria, Ika South local government chapter organized a one day event to celebrate this year’s edition of the international youth’s day, which took place at the local government council hall in Agbor, Delta State
