We Didn’t Compromise Adamawa Election, Suspended REC’s Whereabout Unknown – INEC

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) said it did not know the whereabouts of the suspended Adamawa State Resident Electoral Commissioner (REC), Hudu Yunusa-Ari.
National Commissioner and Chairman of the Electoral Authority’s Voter Education and Information Committee, Festus Okoye, who revealed it on Channels Television’s Sunrise Daily on Friday, said the Commission’s leadership had summoned episode REC was having a hard time reporting to headquarters, but failed to do so, nor did he pick up the phone when called.

Okoye said the Commission wrote to Inspector General of Police Usman Akali Baba to investigate the suspension of REC so that it could be prosecuted.

He added that INEC has also written to the Minister of the Federal Government (SGF), Boss Mustapha,  to inform President Muhammadu Buhari of the evil activities of the REC and possibly reconsider his appointment. Meanwhile, on Thursday, the commissioner denied claims that officials deployed to organize the Adamawa state gubernatorial election had sabotaged the election process.

In a statement in Abuja, he further denied allegations that his officials compromised after a “quiet night visit” to the state government headquarters.

Nigeria News reported that the gubernatorial candidate of the Progressive Congress (APC) in the March 18 gubernatorial election and April 15 supplementary polls, Aishatu Dahiru (Binani) alleges that INEC officials deployed for the election trespassed and sabotaged the electoral process.

Binani said, “What happened in Adamawa was a failed attempt to overthrow the will of the people. The REC was unlawfully ordered to resign by two INEC National Commissioners from Abuja, who were said to be in Adamawa as custodians. “Even more curious was the nighttime visit of some INEC National Officials to the Adamawa State Government Building and the strange statement the same day after the visit that they continued to snack through the back door with the officials. reconciliation and return selected by Governor Adamaoua.

Although INEC did not mention Binani or any other candidate in the statement, the committee said such allegations were lies and should be ignored.

The statement reads: “The committee generally does not associate matters with partisan actors, especially when no evidence is provided.

“Honestly, no such visit or meeting took place, let alone the purported listing of ratings and returning officers.

Such a meeting would be contrary to the oath of neutrality all have taken.

“Moreover, any conscientious observer will notice that the committee appoints and retains only one returning officer for the state gubernatorial election who also served as the state’s comparator. for the state gubernatorial election. “Like all Returning Officers in the country, he has received a letter of appointment from the commission and the Adamawa State Resident Election Commissioner (REC) has been duly notified.

The list of rank-and-file officers is also moved to the state with each page personally approved by the committee chair, long before the national commissioners arrive.
