Sisters Killed By Stray Bullets (Photos)

Nuratu, 16, and Khadija, 11, two teenage sisters, were killed after they were hit by stray gunshots.

Soldiers were said to have shot the rounds into a market in Kidandan district, a locality in Kaduna’s Giwa Local Government Area.

According to an eyewitness, the troops were driving through the market when they spotted several unknown men riding motorcycles and challenged them, adding that the villagers bolted when they heard bullets purportedly fired by the military at the individuals.

The two sisters were struck by stray gunfire during the ensuing fight as they attempted to flee the scene.

Salisu Shuaibu Kidanda, their older brother, reported they were slain by bullets fired by soldiers in the crowd.

“Even if they (soldiers) were aiming for the Fulani they saw in the market, why would they shoot into the crowd?” he said. When my sisters were injured by gunshots, they were trying to run back home because the market was on the outside of the hamlet.”

‘As we speak, the soldiers have yet to pay our parents a visit to express their regret for their actions; only the police have done so.’ We need justice because you can’t just kill innocent girls and go away.”
