Tragedy struck Idumu-Oro quarters of Umunede, Ika North East Local Government Area of Delta, following the assassination of one Joseph Obi, his wife, Margret and daughter, Grace on the night of March 7, 2016.
Ika Weekly was reliably informed by source from the Umunede Police Division that it was only the son of the deceased, Oscar Obi who escaped death for the fact that he was not at home when the assassins stormed their home.
The source while describing their assassination as gruesome and height of a man’s inhumanity to man, said the police following the information on their disposal has made arrest of some of the members of the Idumu-Oro Community Elders-in-Council Development Committee which the late Joseph Obi was a member.
It was further gathered that before assassination, that late Joseph Obi’s life has been threatened by the members of Idumu-Oro Community Elders-in-Council Development Committee because he stood against the decision of the committee to embezzle a huge sum of money allocated to the community for developmental projects.
The Chairman of Idumu-Oro Community Elders-in-Council Development Committee, Akpa Ojeh who presently is at the custody of the police was the one masterminded the assassination, as he was said to have promised the committee members in their last meeting held on February 29, 2016 that he should be left alone to deal with Joseph Obi and family in his own way.
Meanwhile, the police have promised to intensify effort in bringing to book all those behind the assassination.
