Senate Presidency: I Will Step Down On Tinubu’s Wish, Says Kalu, Gives Reason

Senate Chief Whip Orji Uzor Kalu said he would give up the presidential race for the 10th National Assembly if President-elect Bola Tinubu asked him to step down.
Kalu said so on Tuesday during a press conference with reporters at State after meeting with President Muhammadu Buhari about his Senate presidential ambitions.

Informing the President of his intention to become the next Speaker of the Senate, the former Governor of Abia said they only laughed at each other over the matter because Buhari gave no response, keeping the mood ambiguous.

However, the lawmaker said he did not receive any assurances from anyone, but as a party member, he remained hopeful.

Despite insisting that he will be the solution to finding the president of the Southeast Senate, Kalu insists that he could be stopped by people in the major leagues, although he said that coming to your turn.  During a closed-door meeting with the president, Senator Kalu said he suggested reinstating the party’s board of directors so that the president as president could exist in the consciousness of the Progressive All-People’s Congress (PCA). ).

The lawmaker further noted that it has become imperative for members to have someone to turn to in times of trouble, saying that only God can save the party from a state of protracted animosity that threatens to split the party.

“It is just God that saved our party because the quarrel and rancour inside the party is so much. The party should bring back our Board of Trustees or something that looks like it so that Mr President will be Chairman of the Board of Trustees of the party so that every four or five months, he will come and see how the party is doing,” Kalu said.

“We cannot just leave the party empty-handed. The President will still be part of the conscience of the party so that we will have somebody to run to when we have problems in the party.

“It is just God that saved our party, that is the truth because the quarrel and rancour inside the party are so much. We need a man like President Buhari to be around every three or four months, we’ll go and drag him from Daura and he will settle party matters.”
