Sanwo Olu Pauses Campaigns, Declares 3 Days Mourning Following Train Accident

Lagos Governor Babajide Sanwo Olu is suspending his re-election campaigns after a tragic train crash resulted in the deaths of state officials.
On Thursday, March 9, 2023, an incident occurred when a train collided with a bus belonging to a state government employee in Ikeja, crossing a railway line to connect Ikeja GRA.

However, six people were confirmed dead and several others were injured to varying degrees.

As a sign of respect and sympathy, the governor ordered department heads to declare half-day work on Friday, March 10, 2023, and claim three days of mourning. During this time, state officials will visit the families of the deceased and offer condolences. The governor also ordered that the Lagos State flag be flown at half-mast in honor of the victims, and his campaign will be suspended for a period of mourning.

Governor Sanwo Olu also thanked his political opponents, Labor Party and People’s Democratic Party (PDP) gubernatorial candidates Gbadebo Rhodes Vivour and Abdul-Azeez Adediran, for their support. their support and solidarity in this difficult time. He praised them for not politicizing the case.

The federal government has also ordered an investigation into the crash through the Nigerian Security Investigations Bureau (NSIB).
