Result-Viewing Portal Now Working, Ready For Gov Polls – INEC Assures Nigerians

The Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, has ensured that its results visualization portal, which had problems in the presidential and congressional elections, is now up and running.
He said the IReV portal would be launched in Saturday’s state and House of Representatives gubernatorial elections.

The press director of the INEC president, Rotimi Oyekanmi, said so in an interview with our correspondent on Sunday.

INEC has received backlash from various political parties, observers, individuals, and interest groups for not uploading the results of the polling stations to the portal prior to collection.

Some political parties and individuals relied on the glitch to demand the cancellation of the results.  Meanwhile, tests carried out by journalists on Sunday showed that INEC has so far downloaded 161,624 results from 176,846 polling stations, eight days after the presidential election.

The number represents 92% of the results of all voting units.

At the time of submission of this report,  electronic transmission of results is still in progress.

Nigerians expect election results to be uploaded on Election Day as promised by INEC President, Professor Mahmood Yakubu.  However, INEC has been criticized for not uploading the results to its viewing portal, which resulted in some party agents leaving on Monday at the National Reconciliation Center.

Checks by reporters on Sunday showed that results from all polling stations had not yet been uploaded to INEC’s website.

BolaTinubu, the ruling All Progressive parliamentary candidate, won 8.8 million votes while leading opposition candidates Atiku Abubakar and Peter Obi won 6.9 million and 6.1 million respectively. , according to the committee of voice.

Talking about this issue, Oyekanmi said:

“The technical glitches that affected it on February 25 have now been resolved. It will be deployed for the governorship and state Assembly elections scheduled for March 11.”

On the calls on INEC to cancel the election, Oyekanmi said,

“The aggrieved parties have a right and an opportunity to ventilate their grievances at the Election Petition Tribunal if they are dissatisfied with the outcome of an election. So far, in the case of the just concluded presidential election, two political parties have openly rejected the outcome and have already indicated their intention to do just that – go to court.”
