Rivers State Governor Nyesom Wike said he did not publicly support LP Labor presidential candidate Peter Obi in the February 25 election because no one discussed the Igbo presidency with his grandfather.
According to NAN, Ohaneze Ndigbo Global Publicity Minister Dr. Alex Ogbonnia told Enugu on Friday that Wike made the statement during a meeting the sociopolitical group held with him in Port Harcourt on Thursday.
Ogbonnia said that during the meeting, Ohaneze Ndigbo confronted Wike about his alleged role against Obi in the presidential election.
He said Governor Wike expressed surprise that Ohanaeze was on a mission to find out the truth and explain her role in the presidential election.
According to Ogbonnia, Governor de Rivers explained that the Southern Governors Forum met for the first time in Asaba and agreed that power would be transferred to the South after President Muhammadu Buhari.
He also explained that the Governors then met in Enugu in September 2021 to reaffirm their stance in favor of the transfer of power to the South.
He said that during the meetings, “the issue of the Southeast President was never brought up for discussion.”
Wike also explains that throughout his political adventures, he did his best to maintain his position as governor of the South.
Wike expressed his displeasure that in the PDP presidential primaries, some famous people from the Southeast had betrayed him and undermined the interests of the South by voting for a candidate from the South. north. He added that his steadfast commitment to the South motivated him to “provide logistics for Obi while he was in Rivers for the presidential campaign.”
Wike notes that on the contrary, he refused to even provide campaign facilities to Alhaji Atiku Abubakar, a presidential candidate for his own People’s Democratic Party.
The Governor added that
“what is circulating in the social media is the handiwork of Wike adversaries.’’
“I am a man with the courage of my convictions and have no reasons to tell lies or to owe an apology to anyone.
“I am always ready to defend my actions any day and at any time, and I did not rig the presidential election against Obi,’’
Ogbonnia quoted Wike as having said.
