Peter Obi Is Ineligible For The Presidency For Constitutional Reasons According To APC Chieftain

Okoi Obono-Obla, a former presidential aide and spokesman for the All Progressives Congress (APC) campaign committee in Cross River State, claims that the Labour Party (LP) presidential nominee, Peter Obi, is ineligible for next month’s presidential election.

According to the chieftain, Obi ran for and won the LP ticket despite not being a member of the political party.

Obono-Obla stated during an interview in Calabar that “each party is required to maintain a membership register in hard and soft copy and to make such register available to the Independent National Electoral Commission not later than 30 days before the date fixed for primaries, congresses, and conventions.”

The attorney claims that at the time Obi won the LP’s presidential primary, his name was not included on a required list that was provided to the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) and contained the names of every party member.

“INEC required all political parties to provide membership lists by April 30, 2022. On May 31, 2022, the Labour Party held its presidential primary. On May 27, 2022, Peter Obi joined the Labor Party. As a result, Peter Obi’s name was not on the Labour Party registration that had been submitted to INEC in accordance with Section 77 of the Electoral Act of 2022, which is when he allegedly obtained the party’s nomination.”

The APC stalwart emphasized that a candidate’s membership in a political party is one of the constitutional conditions for becoming president.
