Some Obidients organized a peaceful protest at the Rivers State office of the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, in Port Harcourt.
DailyPost reported that protesters signed them with different inscriptions, demanding that their powers be restored and that the judiciary must do the right thing.
Speaking to reporters on Wednesday (today), one of the protesters who identified herself as a ‘disappointed and worried Nigerian woman’ said she protested on behalf of well-behaved people in the State Rivers, in solidarity with the people of Nasarawa State and Abuja.
The woman reiterated that the people obediently rejected the results of the nationwide presidential election and the results announced to Rivers State.
”What we bargained was not what was given to us. We say no to that and we are requesting and we are demanding that INEC restore our mandate.
“That vote was our vote and we need it back. The person we voted for was not the person that was announced as president-elect.” She added.
Another protester who also declined to identify herself said the result of the presidential election did not reflect transparency.
“I don’t think Nigerians deserve this. We need a better Nigeria. What transpired does not reflect transparency. We need a peaceful Nigeria. We are here for a peaceful process. We want them to respect our constitution.”
The protest commenced while INEC was issuing certificates of return to winners of the national and state elections in the state.
DAILY POST reports that no official of INEC came out to address the protesters.
