“Nnamdi Kanu Might Die In Detention” – Ozekhome Raises Concern Over IPOB Leader’s Health

Nnamdi Kanu’s lead lawyer, Mike Ozekhome, told the Supreme Court that he was concerned the leader of the Indigenous Peoples of Biafra (IPOB) could die in the custody of the Department of State Services (DSS).
Ozekhome, during Thursday’s hearing, told the Supreme Court that Kanu’s health problems had deteriorated and he needed surgery.

The lawyer asked the court to rule in favor of transferring Kanu from the DSS detention center to the Kuje Correctional Center so that he could begin treatment.

“My Lords, Nnamdi Kanu is sick, he has been approved for surgery but they have refused to release him for treatment.”

“We are pleading for him to be transferred from DSS custody to Kuje correctional centre so that he can begin treatment like others.

“He’s getting really sick, I’m scared he may die in the custody of DSS. Dead bodies are not prosecuted.”

In response to Ozekhome’s appeal, the Supreme Court replied that God would keep the self-determination agitator alive and that he would not die in custody.

The court said that even if the appeal was heard, there would be no place in the 90-day schedule for drafting and delivering a ruling.

“Nnamdi Kanu will not die in captivity. God will keep him alive and his blood will not be in your hands,” the court said.

The Supreme Court added that the court will hear all petitions in the case when the hearing resumes on September 14.
