Rivers Governor Nyesom Wike said he will no longer run for president.
Wike, while speaking to party supporters at a provincial election campaign rally, said power would shift to the North after eight years in the South.
Bola Tinubu of All Progressive Congress, APC, was declared the winner of the 2023 presidential election, but his closest opponents went to court to demand redress.
Wike said the reason he fought for power to return to the South was not to become president, insisting it was not because of him but a matter of principle.
“Not everyone who initiates the revolution benefits. I did it. I fought him and it didn’t matter. Whether I become president or not, it doesn’t matter.
“What is material is the force that has entered the South. It doesn’t have to be me. It doesn’t have to be me. It is a matter of principle.
“If it ends in the South, it will go North. I won’t run anymore. Because the South will be over in eight years and that will come to the North. Because it is this principle [rotation of power] that brings peace. This is what brings unity.
Wike fought against his party’s national body, the People’s Democratic Party, the PDP for supporting a northern candidate and ensuring that the party did not win the Rivers State presidential election.
