The Nigerian government said it is looking into the possibility of banning the use of motorcycles to curb the activities of terrorists.
The Minister of Justice and Attorney General Abubakar Malami announced this at the end of the National Security Council meeting chaired by President Muhammadu Buhari today in Abuja.
In his speech to the press, the minister who was accompanied by his counterpart in the Ministry of Interior, Rauf Aregbesola, and the Ministry of Police, Alhaji Maigari Dingyadi, said that the government is thinking of banning the use of motorcycles and mining activities.
He said the plan was to block the means by which terrorists and kidnappers get money and transport their goods.
The minister explained that the use of motorcycles allows the terrorists to fund their arms supply.
However, the minister did not disclose where the law will be implemented, whether it is the entire country or a part of the country.
On his part, The Minister of Interior, Aregbesola lamented that despite the gathering of intelligence before the attack on Kuje Prison on July 5, the terrorists succeeded because there was “no will to act.”.
He added that President Buhari has received a report on the preliminary investigation about the attack, with the promise that all officers found negligent in their duties will be punished.
