I’m Still Governor of Ebonyi — Umahi Rejects Court-Ordered Sack

Dave Umahi Governor of Ebonyi State has rejected an Abuja Federal High Court judgement that removed him from office.

Despite the court ruling, Umahi claimed that he is still the governor of the state.

The governor stated that his supporters would defy the judgment.

Governor Umahi, speaking to journalists at his office in Abakaliki, called the verdict as “jungle justice purchased.”

The governor insisted that such a decision was not beneficial for the judiciary.

Justice Inyang Ekwo of the Federal High Court in Abuja had removed Umahi as governor of Ebonyi State and his deputy, Dr. Kelechi Igwe, from office.

Umahi and his deputy were fired by the judge for illegally defecting from the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, to the All Progressives Congress, (APC).

He found that the governor’s and Deputy’s defection was illegal, unconstitutional, and null and void.

They were ordered by the judge to vacate their offices immediately.

Ekwo said that the vote that elected the governor and his deputy belonged to the PDP and that they could not keep the votes after abandoning the party that nominated them.
