Inspector General of Police (IGP), Usman Baba, has ordered the Commissioner of Police in charge of Elections in Adamawa State, Mohammed Barde, to resign from the state with immediate effect.
The IGP has also ordered that the Gombe State Police Commissioner, CP Etim Equa, immediately travel to Adamawa State to ensure election security for the additional governor’s poll that has yet to be held.
The Force’s public relations officer, Muyiwa Adejobi, speaking to reporters in Abuja on Tuesday, said the IGP is committed to a free and fair process.
Meanwhile, earlier, officials from the Independent National Election Commission, INEC, reconvened at the State Gathering Center in Yola, the capital of Adamawa State.
The state INEC administrative secretary, Adamu Gujungu, who was appointed to replace the erroneous resident election commissioner, Hudu Yunusa Ari, was seen at the collection center. National CENI commissioner and chair of the voter education and information committee, Festus Okoye, is expected to be at the collection center.
Recall that INEC on Tuesday wrote to Inspector General of Police Usman Baba to investigate and prosecute Resident Election Commissioner Hudu Yunusa Ari.
INEC on Sunday suspended the snack for Saturday’s by-election for governor in Adamawa after Ari announced that Aisha ‘Binani’ Dahiru of the Progressive Congress (APC) was the winner over the incumbent governor. President, Ahmadu Fintiri of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP).
