History

In 2002, the university submitted an application to the National University Commission. The Standing Committee of Private Universities (SCOPU) conducted final verification and evaluation visits in August and September 2003 respectively. At the end of the assessment visits, SCOPU indicated that Lead City University owner records confirm that he has the capacity and resources to establish a private university. The university was subsequently “approved for immediate take-off” by the NUC Board of Trustees in December 2003 as a prelude to approval by the Federal Executive Board, effective on February 16, 2005.

Although the university’s charter bears the name City University, Ibadan due to some cases of identity confusion and to avoid the problem of corporate identity, the University’s Board of Directors and Board of Trustees organized an extraordinary meeting on March 7, 2005, and decided to change its name to lead City University, Ibadan. stakeholders while all previous documents related to City University, Ibadan are still valid
