Covenant University Ota Ogun State

Covenant University (CU) is a private Christian university located in Ota, Ogun State, Nigeria. It is affiliated with Living Faith Church Worldwide and is a member of the Association of Commonwealth Universities, the Association of African Universities and the National Universities Commission. In 2019, Covenant University became the first Nigerian university to be ranked in the 401-500 category of Best Global Universities by Times Higher Education.

History and Governance

The founding of Covenant University (CU) began in October 1999, a month after the inauguration of the Faith Tabernacle in Ota. The university is a product of the Emancipation Commission and was founded by the World Mission Service and the Global Living Faith Church. Covenant University opened on October 21, 2002 in Canaanland, Ota with a Pentecostal Christian mission philosophy. It was founded by David Oyedepo, the presiding bishop of Living Faith Church Worldwide, who is the university’s rector.

Covenant University’s academic programs are offered at four colleges:
College of Management and Social Sciences (CBSS), College of Leadership Development Studies (CLDS), College of Engineering (COE) and College of Science and Technology (CST). Covenant University offers graduate programs in the entire curriculum as listed above. The school has a stadium with swimming pool and tennis, table tennis, basketball and volleyball courts. Covenant University is one of the affiliated universities of the Nigerian Association of Private University Games.

The Covenant University Resource Center, also known as the University Library, is located between the Women’s Boarding Halls, Dorcas and Esther Halls on campus, and directly across from the University Chapel. The total floor area of ​​the complex is 11,300 m2. The library complex is a three-story building, renowned as one of the largest in Africa. It is designed as a glass structure. It is located in between the university buildings, the university chapel and the residential area. It can hold up to 3000 readers and about 500 researchers and postgraduate students.

Open Access Publications
In January 2011, Covenant University adopted a policy requiring that all publications referenced in journals, conferences, and books be deposited in the university’s open access repository. This applies to both professors and graduate students.
