Akwa Ibom State University (AKSU) is designed and funded by the Akwa Ibom State Government. Unit of enthusiasts relentless pursuit of knowledge who solve real problems of development in Nigeria. The university opened its doors to pioneering students in the 2010/2011 academic year.
The campus
When designed, the university was located in the technological triangle of the Akwa Ibom State in the university city. However, the administration of the Akwa Ibom State Government changed the law allowing the university to become a multi-campus institution with the main campus at Ikot Akpaden, Mkpat Enin LGA and a second campus affectionately known as the Ikot Akpaden. The Abak Campus is located in Obio Akpa, Oruk Anam LGA The goals of the university were changed by the administration of the state government to transform the university into a regular university with a focus not only on technology and applied science but also art. [citation needed] In keeping with this transformation, the name of the institution changed from Akwa Ibom State University of Technology to Akwa Ibom State University.
How it Started
On October 18, 2000, in Uyo, Akwa Ibom State, Nigeria, then-Executive Governor of Akwa Ibom State, Arc (Obong) Victor Attah established the committee to establish Akwa Ibom State University of Technology.
The committee includes Professor Ephraim E. Okon, Professor Ekong E. Ekong, Professor Ulo K. Enyenihi, Professor Reuben K. Udo, Professor E. W. Mbipom, Ing. Mrs. McCarthy Mayen Adetiba, Ing. Esio O. Mboho, engineer. Section U. Ukpoho, engineer. Uyai Ekaette, Dr. Usen J. Antia, Mr. Pius Wilson; Engineer Linus Asuquo; Moïse Essien, PhD. This is Udoka, Professor Joe Uyanga and Mr. DIRE. J. Akpan. The school opened its doors to pioneer students in the 2010/2011 school year. [citation needed]
Having the mandate to establish AKUTECH, a project was approved by the former Executive Governor of the State of Akwa Ibom, Obong (Barr) Godswill Akpabio which resulted in the enactment of the University Act on 15th May. September 2009 by Akwa Ibom Parliament Building.

Staff development
More than 60 faculty members are undergoing AKSU-sponsored postgraduate training in universities in Europe, North America and Singapore. More centres of excellence have been identified in South America, Japan and other Asian countries for further collaboration and manpower development.
