Osun state senator Ademola Adeleke said former governor of Gboyega Oyetola state did not congratulate him after his victory in the Court of Appeal.
Adeleke, who said he’s willing to work with the former governor, said he hasn’t heard of Oyetola.
The governor said this while appearing on the Arise TV Morning Show on Monday.
“Immediately after the news of the Appeal Court (judgement), I tried to reach out, I called him – the former Governor Oyetola – to let us forge ahead to move Osun forward, but up till now, he has not called me to congratulate me and I’m still hoping that he will do that because we don’t have any other state than Osun State here. So, I’m ready, my hands are open, let’s come together and move Osun State forward,” Adeleke said.
When asked what he would like to say to Oyetola, Adeleke made a U-turn on reaching out to Oyetola, saying he never called the former governor.
“Well let me correct it, I did not say I put a call to him, what I said is I’m still expecting him to call me so that he can congratulate me, and if he wants to do otherwise and go ahead to the Supreme Court, he has the right to do that,” the governor said.
He reiterated that he would like to work with Oyetola.
The governor also said he is not afraid of the Supreme Court, saying he has the people and God on his side.
As Punch reports, the Court of Appeal sitting in Abuja last Friday overturned a court ruling that overturned Adeleke’s election as governor of the state.
The Court of Appeal, in a unanimous decision by a three-judge panel, headed by Judge Mohammed Lawal, ruled that Adeleke’s appeal challenging the Court’s motion to elect Governor Osun dismissed him. is grounded.
The court also fined N500,000 in costs against the Comprehensive Progressive Congress and its candidate, Oyetola.
In the decision-making process, justice decided that the preponderance of the evidence that there was an excessive vote in the election belonged to the petitioner. The court also held that “the party alleging non-compliance with the electoral law must prove its position and not rely solely on the weakness of the other party”.
In delivering his ruling, Judge Mohammed Shaibu overturned the Provincial Electoral Court’s ruling that annulled the results of the July Provincial election.
The three-man panel revoked the court order to revoke the certificate of return from Adeleke and issue it to his predecessor and Radical Congress candidate Oyetola.
The appeals court overturned the court’s decision, saying that Adeleke was the real winner and governor of Osun state.
