Buhari criticizes the soaring cost of rams on Eid-el-Kabir.

Buhari critizes cost of ram and other food items. President Muhammadu Buhari has condemned the current market’s exorbitant pricing for food, ram, and other commodities, claiming that the practice is incompatible with Islam’s principles.

President Buhari urged Muslims to “show the excellent characteristics of Islam by personal examples and actions” in his message commemorating Eid-el-Adha, which is being observed around the world today.

“As practicing Christians, we should not pursue exorbitant riches by making people’ lives difficult and miserable,” he stated. We should not pursue happiness at the price of others’ happiness. Keep in mind that Islam is a charitable religion that teaches us to love our neighbors as we love ourselves.

In the spirit of peaceful coexistence, I urge all Muslims to continue to live in peace and harmony with their fellow Nigerians of other religions. Let us pray for Nigeria’s progress at all times. Let us reveal the nefarious individuals among us who are endangering the country’s security.”

Despite last Friday’s National Bureau of Statistics (NBS) announcement of dropping inflation in the month of June, the Guardian reported on Monday that high commodity costs were depriving Muslim faithful of a decent Sallah celebration.

The President reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to building a just, peaceful, and wealthy society where people’s lives and property are safe.
“The COVID-19 pandemic has taken a heavy toll on the economies of all countries, including Nigeria, in addition to the fact that floods have caused large-scale destruction of agricultural farmlands, thereby negatively impacting our efforts to boost local production in line with our policy to drastically reduce food inflation,” the President said.

The President noted that the flood threat caused food inflation, which the government is working hard to alleviate, in a statement released by his Senior Special Assistant on Media and Publicity, Mallam Garba Shehu, in Abuja.

The ongoing instability in the country, according to the President, “has had serious and bad consequences on agriculture since bandits and terrorists restrict farmers from reaching their farms.”
