Ogun Governor Dapo Abiodun was re-elected for a second four-year term.
Abiodun was the gubernatorial candidate of the All Progressive Congress.
The Independent National Election Commission declared Abiodun the winner of Sunday’s gubernatorial election.
Abiodun collected 276,298 votes to defeat his closest opponent, Ladi Adebutu of the People’s Democratic Party, who won 262,383 votes.
The APC won 12 local government areas in the state while the PDP won eight local government areas, according to a statement by the election arbitrator at the state matching center in Abeokuta. APC won in Odeda, Egbado-North, Egbado-South, Ewekoro, Ijebu-North, Ijebu-Ode, Ipokia, Abeokuta-North. The Ado-Odo/Ota, Ifo, Obafemi-Owode, and Imeko-Afon local government areas of the state.
PDP won in Abeokuta-South, Ogun Waterside, Ijebu-North/East, Ikenne, Ijebu-East, Remo-North, Odogbolu, and Sagamu.
Meanwhile, before Abiodun was announced as the winner of the poll, PDP ratings official Sunkanmi Oyejide warned the election arbitrator not to declare the winner of the election.
Oyejide said the INEC should consider a provision in the (amended) election law that directs the committee to declare a replay in cases where the total number of rejected votes is greater than the odds. This came shortly after Sagamu’s matching officer, Professor Oluwagboyega Afolabi, presented the political party’s scores to the panel.
Afolabi said 15 polling stations were canceled following violence in Saturday’s gubernatorial election.
However, PDP staff made a comment objecting to the subsequent submission of a copy of the results.
Oyejide said there were no less than 33,750 voters in Sagamu, Ijebu-Ode, Ikenne, Ijebu-North, and Ogun Waterside and asked the committee to look into the matter.
