BLACK TUESDAY: OPC, EIYE CULT CLASH IN BENIN, CLAIM TWO LIVES

Two members of the Eiye cult group have been confirmed dead following a clash with the members of the Oodua People’s Congress (OPC) on Tuesday, December 2, 2014.
It was gathered that efforts to curtail the incessant activities of cult groups in Benin City, that the youth wing of the Oodua People’s Congress have been having long-standing confrontation with the many cult groups in the last three years.
According to an eyewitness, “Members of Supreme Eiye confraternity were on a procession along Upper Sakpoba Road when members of the youth wing of the OPC confronted them.
“The scene escalated between the two groups until a gunshot was released by an Eiye confraternity member which created a terror signal, with the two groups engaging themselves in physical combat, leaving two members of the Eiye confraternity dead.
As of the time the police intervened, the groups had almost dispersed and the injured were rushed to the hospital for treatment by passersby.
In the aftermath of the clash, the gallant men of the OPC which include Victor Osaghale, Osaretin Aigbikhare, Ebeja Israel, and Moses Egharevha were declared missing and there whereabouts has remained unknown.
According to the Edo State Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), Noble Uwoh, investigations are ongoing to ascertain the actual cause of the deaths and the sudden disappearance the OPC members.
