AFTERMATH OF 2015 IKA HOUSE OF REPS: HENRY EGWUYE DECLARED MISSING
The Egwuye family of Ilabor Quarters in Ika North East Local Government Area raised alarm over the disappearance of one of their sons, Henry Egwuye following electoral violence that occurred after the end of the House of Representatives election in Ika Federal Constituency held on March 28, 2015.
Speaking with Ika Weekly, the father of the missing Henry Egwuye, Mr. Emmanuel Egwuye described the 2015 House of Representatives election between Hon. Doris Uboh of Accord Party (AP) and Hon. Victor Nwokolo of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) as deadly.
According to him, “The life of my son, Henry Egwuye who is a staunch supporter of the Accord Party has been under threat for saying no to PDP even though he and Victor Nwokolo hail from the same Ilabor quarters of Igbodo.
“As one of the vibrant youth leaders in Accord Party who is influential, Henry Egwuye had before the election rejected all forms of bribe to rig the election from the PDP. A few days before the election, PDP thugs were after my son demanding he should leave Igbodo or they would kill him.
“It was an electoral thug of war on the election day and the PDP on hearing the outcome of the election in the favour of the Accord Party sent their thugs to snatch ballot boxes at gunpoint and shooting sporadically thereby killing some of the voters.
“After the election, unknown gunmen were sent after Henry Egwuye to kill him, but on several occasions, he escaped. He said his close friend in the PDP confided in him to flee as the attack had been sponsored by the PDP to take his life since he has been a stumbling block to their electoral success”.
Continuing, Mr. Egwuye said the last attack on his son (Henry) was on the night of July 23, 2015, when his attackers set his house ablaze and since the incident, he is nowhere to be found. He said Henry should be alive because his dead body was not found in the burnt building to confirm that he died.
He appeals to anyone who has information on the whereabouts of Henry to shelter him, revealing that the police is doing nothing on the matter to provide protection that will guarantee his safety.
