2 Years After: Obi Chinedu Wisdom Still Missing
Two years after his sudden disappearance, the Obi family of the ancient Idumuesah Kingdom has raised alarm over the continued absence of one of their sons, Mr Obi Chinedu Wisdom, a 33-year-old father of one, whose whereabouts remain unknown.
Ika Mirror newspaper gathered that the major agenda of the Obi family’s annual unity gathering, held on Sunday, January 18, 2026, was an extensive deliberation on the whereabouts of the missing family member.
A close family source, who spoke on condition of anonymity, disclosed that members of the Obi family expressed deep concern over the prolonged silence surrounding Chinedu’s fate, noting that his absence has remained a major source of worry and emotional pain for the family.
According to the source, the decision to raise a public alarm was informed by the fact that, despite living in a digital age where communication is relatively easy, the family has neither seen nor heard from Chinedu for two years now.
Recounting the circumstances surrounding his disappearance, the source described Chinedu as a victim of circumstance.
The source explained that Chinedu, who was born and raised outside Idumuesah, had returned to the village to engage in farming activities. On January 3, 2023, he reportedly went to the farm on a sacred day traditionally observed by the community as a period of purification, during which farming activities are strictly forbidden.
The source further explained that, under the customs of the Idumuesah people, anyone who violates the sacred day is believed to incur the wrath of the gods and may be required as a sacrificial offering to appease the land.
“How Chinedu survived the attack on that day remains a miracle,” the source said.
“It was after two months of searching for him that a Catholic priest in the Isele-Uku diocese broke the news of his attack, telling us that Chinedu survived it and had fled out of Alioma Hospital for fear of being sacrificed for committing what the community regards as a grave abomination.
Traditionally, no victim of such an act is expected to remain alive, as the punishment is believed to be death.”
Since then, the family said all efforts to locate or hear from him have proven futile.
In conclusion, the Obi family appealed to members of the public who may have useful information regarding the whereabouts of Chinedu to contact the family. They further pleaded that wherever he may be, he should be protected and encouraged to reach out, even if only to reassure them that he is alive.
The family emphasised that hearing his voice alone would bring them immense relief after years of uncertainty and emotional pain.
Meanwhile, sources noted that the deadly cultural practices associated with Idumuesah have resisted intervention, as several attempts by security agencies to interfere reportedly resulted in the loss of lives, including those of police officers.
